THE STORY BEHIND THE PRINT...
Each of my ‘Little Chinese Windows’ depicts a curated vignette of objects arranged as a still life image with image details layered over the top.
In this instance a stunning detail of an antique Chinese embroidered ‘Court Robe’ that I bought from an art school friend who runs am amazing vintage clothing fair in London’s trendy Clerkenwell and Covent Garden. The embroidery and detail on this piece is so incredible, I love the intricate rolled edges of silk, the cut outs and the layering and the faded colours, all so delicate! I have a long jade beaded necklace hanging over the top of it alongside embroidered golden butterflies from another silk piece of fabric. The little white dots seen on the black background are actually Chinese engraved white wooden beads. In the bottom left hand corner sits a photo of an old ‘flying kite’ in the shape of a moth that hangs above a mantelpiece in another artist friend’s house in the UK.
