THE STORY BEHIND THE PRINT...

One of my greatest loves is to wander through the different areas of Singapore, camera in one hand, reusable water bottle in the other!

I have lived in a few different properties in Singapore all with different styles of architecture, from a modern Sentosa townhouse, a Black and White house and now B & W apartment… but I have also been lucky enough to live in a heritage shophouse on Koon Seng Road - one of the most photographed streets on the island with it’s colourful ice cream shades and ornate plasterwork adorning the building’s facades. The surrounding area of Joo Chiat is filled to the brim with heritage accents from decorative Peranakan tiles on the outside of the shophouses, beaded slippers and teapots in shop windows to chirpy bamboo birdcages and the sweet fragrant smell of Frangipani trees.

In this image, I’ve mixed photos I have taken on the street with items from my growing vintage collection. A delicate hand painted fabric parasol, to shield ladies from the sun in the midday heat of the tropics. A small Aqua tea flask and some ‘Tingkat’ tiffin food carriers which I stumbled across on one of my “shopping” trips to Chinatown and the area of Katong.

Also included are an unusual palm design chair in an Art Deco style which was sitting outside on the street and the guardian lions keeping watch and warding off evil spirits.

All the images are my own and shot in various locations on my walking adventures around the Little Red Dot I call home.
